National Microscope Exchange Offers Refractometers to Help Wrestlers Meet New National Federation of State High School Association Rules Requiring Hydration Testing

Carnation, WA (PRWEB) July 28, 2006 -- The ATAGO Model 4410 PAL-10S Digital refractometer and Model 2722 Uricon-NE analog refractometer supplied by National Microscope Exchange help keep wrestlers in compliance with new weight-management rules. These rules, as approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), require monitoring of hydration of all wrestlers beginning with the 2006-2007 Wrestling season. The Uricon-NE has been listed as the recommended instrument by the California Inter-Scholastic Federation (CIF).

The ATAGO brand PAL-10S and Uricon-NE will allow coaches to easily determine if their athletes are in compliance with recommended hydration levels. Both read urine specific gravity immediately on a hand held instrument, according to National Microscope Exchange President Rowland Brasch.

“The PAL-10S Uricon-NE is a very easy instrument to use,” said Brasch. “You simply put a few drops of urine on the glass prism, press a button and note the readout on a digital display. Not only does it take the guesswork out of reading the results, but it also keeps the sample away from your face as you read the scale. The Uricon-NE is also easy to use. After putting a few drops of sample on the prism, you hold it to the light and read an internal scale which will give you the specific gravity reading number. The number on the scale corresponds to levels of hydration. Both are very affordable instruments for use with high school wrestling programs.”

National Microscope was noted as the vendor of choice for purchasing the Uricon-NE by the CIF Southern Section in their Wrestling Weight Management Equipment recommendations. In addition, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has approved the PAL-10S to be used for this application. Refractometers are the standard method of testing for hydration, and can be also be used at the professional and college levels.

“Hand refractometers for testing urine specific gravity, such as the ATAGO PAL-10S and Uricon-NE refractometers, are attractive to users because of their portability, accuracy and ease of use,” said Brasch.
